Re: Milne trail plan irks some, Nov. 20.
Your paper must have been hard up for headlines.
I attended that public information meeting on Oct. 29 and was appalled at witnessing the Not In My Back Yard attitude at its best.
First of all, those “invited” residents living within 120 metres of the north boundary of Milne Park do not own it, nor does the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority.
Your report omitted some important facts. First, there are currently numerous trails in the park now as well as sizable vehicular parking lots. Second, was it not many of these same residents a few years ago who lobbied council and got approval for a dog leash-free area in that environmentally sensitive area?
Where was the concern for the blue herons and wildlife then? Somewhat hypocritical, isn’t it?
As a daily pedestrian/cyclist between South Unionville and Markham Village, what is missing in Milne is a continuous pathway with connections to all adjacent public roads.
Doing nothing is not an option.
I was the loan voice at the meeting who spoke up about commuting in the tranquility of nature and away from the exhausts and vehicular congestion of stupid drivers along Hwy. 7.
The town has been working on a master pathways plan for over a decade now, so let’s get on with it and get it done.
I am disappointed that you published such a biased story.
Why did you not wait for the real public meeting in council chambers expected to be early in the new year? That’s when all the taxpaying stakeholders can be heard.
I look forward to headlines and reporting that benefit everybody in the town.
