Congratulations to all those dedicated people who are working to save the David Dunlap Observatory lands.
Hurrah for David (Grey Eagle) Sandford. He is absolutely right, “this is really all about greed and big money”.
The same for MP Bryon Wilfert for going right to the vice-president of the board of governors of the University of Toronto.
We all should be proud of Dr. Tom Bolton who for years persistantly and earnestly spoke to council night after night about the adverse problem light pollution had on the work of the observatory — so much so that the council spent thousands of dollars to change the street lights to sodium and point down and passed a light bylaw to protect the observatory’s work.
I understand Dr. Bolton contends the observatory could still be used for scientific purposes. He is the one who discovered the black hole — perhaps we should listen to him.
Boo to the board of governors of the U of T for approaching the heirs of the Dunlop Estate — just for profit.
The heirs should be proud of the heritage their ancestors left it. They should be re-imbursed for any costs they have experienced by the actions of the U of T to rescind their offer to sell.
Shame on the council who would accept saving only half the land.
If the province thinks this is intensification, shame on them. I thought the province was in favour of conservation and the environment.
Why haven’t they helped the people of Richmond Hill to have one area of the town to be green, clean and scientific as well?
Shame on the U of T, which is supposed to be interested in science, conservation are the environment as well as compatible faculties. Why did the board of governors approach the heirs of the observatory in the first place?
Money, at our expense.
Taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for that and the heirs should leave it the way it is.
True, I’m angry and had to voice my disgust at the whole project. Lots will probably disagree but that’s what democracy is supposed to be.
