The feeling of waking up on Christmas morning and seeing the tree adorned with brightly wrapped presents and half-eaten cookies left by the fireplace is one you’ll never forget.
Jacob Moon brings that feeling of tiptoeing down the stairs with childlike hope of seeing the jolly man in red to Valleyview Alliance Church in Newmarket.
The award-winning artist kicks off his one-night-only season tour this weekend in Ajax and makes his way to town Dec. 14.
His Christmas CD, This Christmas, released last year, sold more than 5,000 copies so far.
“From beginning to end, the selection of songs reminds us that the season is upon us,” Mr. Moon said.
Not your typical carolling repertoire for the holidays, Mr. Moon delves into undiscovered Christmas gems with a 10-piece orchestra and string quartet, accompanied by Jodi King, a singer-songwriter from Winnipeg.
After the foray of magical Christmas canons, Mr. Moon brings in an upbeat number, thinking back to bikes wrapped in bows, red wagons and a baby doll.
“It tells the story of Christmas from a child’s perspective,” he said. “We all have those memories of everyone still sleeping and you just want them to wake up and get Christmas going.”
Mr. Moon has performed once a year in Newmarket at Valleyiew Alliance Church for the past few years as a solo guitarist, worship and children’s pastor Jen Hurrell said.
This year, the church opted for one big Christmas event, something the whole family can enjoy.
“He’s phenomenal,” Ms Hurrell said. “He captures the festive imagination of the kids and the parents for an hour-and-a-half.”
