We are now halfway through August and, for many youth, it is a painful reminder that summer is nearly over.

And let’s face it, you’re probably running out of things to do. There are only so many times you can hang out by the pool or go up to the cottage before it becomes a little tired.

I know I’ve already heard this sentence numerous times by many friends: “I’m so bored! Isn’t there anything to do?”

Yes there is; you just need to know where to find it. But don’t worry, I’ve already done the dirty work for you. Here are a few events, all of which are either light on your wallet or free altogether.

Buskerfest Toronto
Aug. 23-25

A three-day event hits the street as the world’s best street-performers (or buskers) descend upon Toronto. The variety of the performances are as diverse as the city itself, as fire-eaters, human statues, contortionists, chalk artists and comedians roam the street.

For kids, the magic lessons will prove to be popular. And in between the acts, stroll through food and refreshment tents.

For more information visit torontobuskerfest.com

Where: Between Church St. and Jarvis St, in the St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood.

Cost: Free, but donations are welcomed in support of Epilepsy Toronto.

Doors Open Markham
Aug. 25-26

A showcase of Markham, often to places you won’t normally visit. There are double-decker bus-rides along Main Street Markham and Unionville. Get a taste of Old Markham; enter century old homes, and find out fascinating facts and stories of Main Street Unionville. Make sure to visit the outdoor exhibitions and art galleries when you’re taking your walking tours. End the day with a York Durham Heritage Train ride departing from the Unionville Train Station. For more information visit unionvilleinfo.com/doorsopenmain.htm

Where: Areas all across Markham and Unionville; prominent sites in particular.

Cost: Free, $5 for train rides.

It’s clear that summer maybe winding down, but that doesn’t mean you have to.
Get out there and live it up.
