The Latcham Gallery opens Imagine, its annual exhibition by the graduating art class of Stouffville District Secondary School, tonight.
The show runs through Jan. 3.
After choosing Imagine as the theme, the 20 students have been creating new works of art to display in the exhibition. "These works of art present all the possibilities open to them and show the diversity of their ideas and the wealth of their creativity," curator Maura Broadhurst said. "After nearly three months of dedicated planning, labour-intensive shading, and late nights, the drawings had gone from an intimidating sheet of white paper to noticeably realistic collages."
At the end of November, the students took on the role of curator, and divvied up the responsibilities of a promotional campaign, media release, opening speech, refreshments, lighting and layout and invitations.
The opening party is on tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.
Some of the students will return to the gallery Saturday to run a Free Family Art Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The students will lead the workshop and you will take your art home with you.
This exhibition is sponsored by Giles Chevrolet and Button, Armstrong&Ness. Awards have been donated by the Stouffville Lions Club.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
