Unionville resident Paul Poirier and Vanessa Crone of Aurora skated their way to a fourth place finish in last weekend’s ice dancing competition at the ISU Grand Prix event in Paris, France.

Entering the free program in fifth place, the first-year Canadian senior pair moved up one place to finish with a score of 171.49.

Defending world champions Isabelle Delobel and Olivier Schoenfelder of France won the gold.

For Poirier and Crone, the effort came on the heels of a silver-medal winning effort in their debut in early November in Ottawa.

“We’re definitely proud of our technical scores,” Poirier, 16, said.

“We worked hard to get the levels up and we’re very happy with our skating at this point in the season. In fact, we’ve kind of surprised ourselves.

“The area we need to improve the most is the expression of the program and make it look more polished.”
