Nathan Chiarlitti was chosen Thursday to be on the Ontario roster that will compete at the 2009 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge in British Columbia next month.

The 16-year-old Maple native and fifth-round pick of the Sarnia Sting in the 2008 Ontario Hockey League’s Priority Selection, Chiarlitti was one of 22 players chosen for the squad comprised of OHL players.

A six-foot, 185-pound defenceman with the Sting, Chiarlitti had one goal and one assist in nine regular season games this season. He was also chosen as the OHL’s West Division Academic Player of the Month for October.

The tournament goes from Dec. 29 to Jan. 4 in Port Alberni, B.C.

Entries include five regional Canadian squads and teams from Finland, Germany, Slovakia, Russia and the United States.
