Samantha Kourvisianos is fulfilling her dream.
And, she’s only nine years old.
The Glad Park Public School student recently appeared in the web-based television series Team Epic.
“I was really, really excited when I found out (I got the part),” Samantha said.
The series, set in the GTA, is about a group of Canadian super heroes with special powers who struggle with their own identity.
The action-comedy follows the superheroes as they fight for justice in society.
Team Epic isn’t the first acting gig Samantha has had.
As a baby, she starred in a Heinz commercial, a CBC show called Get Set For Life and a Canadian Tire spec commercial.
Samantha’s character in Team Epic is bilingual, which Samantha said was an “advantage” for her as she speaks French.
Samantha also auditioned to be in an upcoming movie with Uma Thurman, but didn’t get the part.
“The whole experience of the audition was a great confidence booster for her,” her mother, Mary Kourvisianos, said. “She really wants to get into this whole acting thing.”
Montgomery Bjornson, CEO and president of Poetic License Productions, created the series, and said so far, the response has been great.
“The numbers (ratings) are highest in Canada, the U.S. and Britain,” he said, although he added the show has viewers all over the world.
He said Samantha got the nod against 20 other hopefuls for the part.
“The character is bilingual, so that was very important (that Samantha spoke French),” he said. “We also needed a child actor to portray the emotions.
“Some running, interacting with a couple of older actors and some handling of weapons was also required. Samantha was just a perfect fit.”
