The show must go on. And it will.
The annual Business Awards hosted by the Whitchurch-Stouffville Chamber of Commerce will take place Sept. 25 this year, instead of its usual spring date.
This is the first time in 14 years the awards have been delayed.
Chamber president and CEO Helene Johnson wasn’t surprised the awards had to be postponed.
“Everyone and his brother are onto businesses to sponsor this, sponsor that,” she said, adding the chamber had to spend extra time this year looking for a sponsor.
Sub-Terrain Underground Construction is this year’s sponsor.
“It’s come to a point where businesses had to say ‘I have so much money and where do I spend it?’” she said.
The window to nominate businesses and people has been extended to July 1.
Those who submitted nominations before the original deadline in the spring are still part of the equation, said Mrs. Johnson, meaning you don’t need to nominate someone if you have already done so.
She adds companies and businessmen and women shouldn’t by shy about putting in a nomination.
“We have some great companies here and they certainly should be nominating themselves or someone who thinks they’re a great company should be nominating them,” she said.
