Rescue7 is a Markham company, soon to be made famous by a segment on the hit TV show, Dragon’s Den.
Contestants of the show make a pitch to five businesspeople, called “dragons”, in a bid to receive a cash offer for a piece of the company.
The “dragons” are Arlene Dickinson, Robert Herjavec, Jim Trellvling, Kevin O’Leary and Brett Wilson. It’s hosted by Dianne Buckner.
The real stars, however, are the businesses that stand up and make a pitch to the people that have heard it all.
Markham’s Rescue7, a first aid company that offers safety training and products, did just that.
Jim Collie, CEO of Rescue7, left his career as a firefighter to work on Rescue7 full time. He appeared on the show last May.
“I got a phone call to do a mock pitch so they could audition a new dragon, Brett Wilson,” he said.
“They just wanted to test him, but they liked the pitch so much they decided to have us back for real.”
They showcased the Samaritan public-access defibrillator, a portable defibrillator that has been put in recreation centres, hockey rinks and retail chains.
“I can’t reveal any details until the show has aired, but the dragons liked the concept,” Mr Collie said.
The Dragon’s Den airs Monday at 8 p.m. on CBC TV.
