Four York Region residents hope to become part of the juggernaut known as Canada’s national junior hockey team.
The four have been invited to a training camp in Ottawa for a shot at making Team Canada’s entry for the World Junior Championship Dec. 26 to Jan. 5.
Alex Pieterangelo of King City, Markham’s Cody Hodgson and Woodbridge’s Stefan Della Rovere and Chris DiDomenico will vie for spots starting Dec. 11.
Pieterangelo, who plays for the OHL’s Niagara Ice Dogs, was a the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues.
Hodgson went ninth overall to the Vancouver Canucks. He plays for the Brampton Battalion.
Della Rovere plays for the Barrie Colts while DiDomenico plays for the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.
The tournament starts Dec. 26 and runs to Jan. 5.
Since the tournament started in 1977, Canada has won 14 gold, six silver and four bronze medals.
They have won the last four championships.
