The Vaughan Italia Shooters advanced to the Canadian Soccer League semifinals with a 1-0 overtime win over the Brampton Lions in their quarter-final game in North York last Friday.
With prospects of a shootout looming, Italia Shooters forward Marco Terminesi scored the game-winning goal with just five minutes remaining in the overtime session.
Earlier in the contest, Terminesi had two other opportunities to put the game away as he missed an open net at the 89-minute mark. And just five minutes into overtime, he took a shot that struck the crossbar.
The Italia Shooters will face the Serbian White Eagles, who downed the North York Astros 2-1 in double overtime of their quarter-final game last Saturday in North York.
“We had plenty of chances to win the game earlier,” Italia Shooters forward Jason De Thomasis said. The game will be played Friday at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York at 8 p.m.
