The Scott Somerville Fire and Rescue Service Station and York EMS Station 7–9 has for the second time received recognition for its eco-friendly efforts.
Natural Resources Canada has honoured the Vaughan fire hall for its building’s high energy efficiency and commitment to helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
In 2007, the station won in the Vision category of the Canadian Project Excellence Awards.
The station is gold LEED-certified, which means the building has features that include, for example, larger windows and skylights to provide increased natural light, reduced energy consumption by 35 per cent and reduced indoor potable water use by using low-flow faucets, showers and toilets.
