A former employee who is suing the city for wrongful dismissal has received a report he says will help clear his name.
Former fleet co-ordinator Paul Donofrio was dismissed over allegations he tampered with the city’s e-mail system. But an audit called to probe another matter — the e-mail hacking of Mayor Linda Jackson’s city account during the 2006 election — could show there were security problems at city hall all along, Mr. Donofrio said.
The audit was done by Toronto firm Deloitte Touche.
Mr. Donofrio said details in the audit will prove he did not tamper with the system.
Copies of Ms Jackson’s personal and business e-mails ended up on the doorstep of rival candidate and former mayor Michael Di Biase’s doorstep during the heat of the municipal election campaign, Thanksgiving weekend in 2006.
City officials have not released the report to the public and have been tight-lipped about its findings, citing personnel issues.
“It’s just sad that it’s come down to this and that we couldn’t settle this lawsuit,” Mr. Donofrio said.
He added that due to an agreement between himself and the city, he is not allowed to discuss the contents of the report.
