Did you know cooking, heating and electrical fires account for nearly half of all direct fire deaths?
The Vaughan Fire and Rescue Service wants to help you prevent fires from breaking out in your home.
They’ve teamed up with the Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office and National Fire Protection Association to promote safety messages during Fire Prevention Week, which kicks off tomorrow.
The department will hold events each day this week. These include open houses at fire stations, where residents can have their photos taken with local firefighters and fire trucks, see fire extinguisher demonstrations and pick up fire safety, smoke detector and carbon monoxide information. Fireman Rick will also be holding story telling events at local libraries.
Here is the schedule:
Monday, Oct. 6: Open house at Station 71, 835 Clark Avenue, Thornhill, from 4 to 8 p.m.; Story time at Dufferin Clark Library, 2 p.m.
Tuesday, Oct. 7: Open house at Station 72, 9290 Keele St., Maple, from 4 to 8 p.m.; Story time at Woodbridge Library, 10:30 a.m.; Story time at Bathurst/Clark Resource Library, 2 p.m.
Wednesday, Oct. 8: Open house at Station 75, 2 Fieldstone Dr., Woodbridge, from 4 to 8 p.m.; Story time at Pierre Berton Resource Library, 10:30 a.m.
Thursday, Oct. 9: Open house at Station 79, 9601 Islington Ave., Woodbridge, from 4 to 8 p.m; Story time at Maple Library, at 10:30 a.m.
Friday, Oct. 10: Open house at Station 77, 40 Eagleview Heights, Woodbridge, 4 to 8 p.m.
