A Nottawasaga man was sentenced to 60 more days behind bars earlier this month after pleading guilty in a bomb threat case dating back to February.
Roderick Anderson, 45, will serve the 60 days in addition to time he spent in custody before trial.
On Sept. 9, Mr. Anderson was sentenced to a total of 258 days in jail, ordered to serve three years probation and banned from possessing firearms for life by Justice Joseph Kenkel, police said Monday.
Mr. Anderson was also ordered to pay $11,506 in restitution as part of an order issued by Justice Kenkel, according to police.
At 9:21 p.m., York Regional Police received a 911 call from a man, saying he was on Hwy. 400, south of Lloydtown-Aurora Road in King.
He identified himself and gave his cellphone number before saying there was a bomb in his car and he wanted to kill himself, Insp. Craig Rogers said following the incident.
The man urged police call-takers to close the highway because he didn’t want anyone else to get injured, Insp. Rogers said.
Police responded, finding a silver Honda Civic and verified the call, determining propane canisters were in the car.
The highway was closed with help from Ontario Provincial Police.
As marked York cruisers arrived, the man tried to drive away and police boxed in the Civic.
Spike belts were laid to deflate the Civic’s tires if that had been necessary.
While the man talked to police over the phone, York police’s emergency response unit was called in.
When tactical officers arrived, the scene was contained, Insp. Rogers said.
After a number of hours of negotiations, Mr. Anderson was arrested.
