Woman airlifted with life-threatening injuries

McCowan Road at Old Homestead Road in Georgina remains closed at this hour after a serious two-car crash in the intersection at about 7:30 a.m. that left one car on its side with the driver trapped underneath.

The female driver of a Saturn, who had to be extricated by Georgina firefighters, was transported by air ambulance to Sunnybrook hospital with life-threatening injuries while the female driver of an Impala was taken to Southlake hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Motorists are being diverted to Country Mile Lane, Baldwin Road, Catering Road and Kennedy Road.

It is not known how long the intersection will be closed as police investigate.
