Three teenagers charged in attempted car theft
Thornhill

By: Joe Fantauzzi, Staff Writer

Three Toronto youths were charged after a chaotic stolen car investigation in Thornhill Tuesday night.

A resident in the Royal Orchard and Inverlochy boulevards area called York Regional Police to say he had seen three males get into his father’s black Honda Civic at about 10 p.m, police spokesperson Const. Gary Phillips said.

Police learned the Civic had been started, backed out of the driveway and that the resident had jumped onto the car and yelled at the males to get out, Const. Phillips said.

The Civic continued along the road with the resident on the hood for about 300 metres before striking a parked car.

The resident tried to hold the Civic’s driver door closed, but was unsuccessful and the three people inside fled, Const. Phillips said.

Officers on the ground, including police dogs were called in, and the police helicopter Air2 provided assistance by illuminating the area during a search, he said.

Three Toronto youths, including a 14-year-old and two 17-year-olds, have been charged with theft over $5,000, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, failing to comply with release conditions and dangerous operation of motor vehicle.

They were held for a court appearance.
