The Markham Raiders tykes did something no other club in their minor football organization had ever accomplished in their 23 years of existence last Saturday.
They won the Central Ontario Minor Football League AA title after they defeated the North York Grizzlies 27-18 in overtime during the final at Esther Shiner Stadium in North York.
Noah Smith, Ishmael Castro and James Kypreos each scored one touchdown for the Raiders. Robert Barbieri made all three converts.
For his efforts, Castro was also chosen as the game's top offensive player.
In winning the championship, the Raiders will play in the inaugural T. Litzen Bowl against the Halton Cowboys Saturday at Corpus Christi Catholic High School in Burlington at 9:30 a.m.
Coached by Mike Fascione, Jay Hamilton, Doug Smith, Steve Park, Constantine Hatjis and Adam Desai, other team members included: Tarush Maniktala, Jordon Park, Sagardeep Rupra, Chase Hamilton, Elijah Blake, Iulian Corila Firica, Kieran Kenny, Jake Smith, Jayden DeWaal, Jake Kelly, Zac Vega Santana, Aavik Mukherjee, Davesh Bharwani, Adrian Williams, Deijomi Stewart, Matthew Hallam, Christian Vlahakis, Robert Barbieri, Ty Harding, Angelo Pugliese and Mackz Roy.
