A group of former National Hockey League players and company teams will hit the ice tomorrow at the Angus Glen Community Centre ice in the fifth annual Hockey for the Homeless Tournament.

Kelly Wayling, a member of the 2009 tournament organizing committee, said the event includes 10 corporate teams, each with former NHL players on their rosters.

Among the former NHLers expected to take part are Bob McGill, Kris King, Mark Napier, Chris Nilan, Mark Osborne, Dan Daoust, Mike Gartner, Tony Currie, Rick Nattress, Joe Cirella, Bill Derlago, Nathan LaFayette, Lou Francheschetti, Rocky Dundas, Wilf Paiement, Mike Hough, Greg Hotham, Tom Fergus, Jack Valiquette and Dennis Maruk.

The tournament is in its 14th year in Toronto and the Markham event is one of several held across Canada.

The event has raised $2 million across Canada and helped more than 12,000 men, women and children.

Hockey for the Homeless raises funds and awareness in support of reputable, knowledgeable, solutions-based organizations working directly with those who are homeless in the communities where the funds are raised.

The games run from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. with the championship final at 3 p.m.
