Jeffrey Skinner has made up his mind.

For the 16-year-old Markham native and former Markham District High School student, he elected to forego several scholarship offers to play collegiate hockey in the United States and accept a deal to play in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers.

“I want to compete against the best,” Skinner, a first-round pick of the Rangers in the 2008 OHL priority selection, said of his decision.

“I am really looking forward to playing in the OHL under coach (and GM Steve) Spott who has the same fast-paced, hard-working style that he had when he coached with my hometown Markham (Jr. A) Waxers many years ago.”

Last season, Skinner played with the AAA minor midget Toronto Young Nationals and notched 65 goals and 42 assists in 55 games. Skinner had two older sisters play U.S. college hockey. Andrea attended Cornell and Jennifer went to Harvard.
