Richmond Hill resident Sam Schacter, 18, and his beach volleyball partner Rex Fenton of Ottawa tuned up for the upcoming World Under-19 Championships in the Netherlands by winning two tournaments last weekend in Cobourg.
Taking to the sand Saturday entered in a men’s elite division, the pair advanced to the quarter-finals before they were eliminated.
However, the pair took things a few steps further Sunday in the under-24 division, they claimed first place.
En route, they defeated Tom Podstawka and Jeremy Groenveld, the pair representing Canada in the Under-21 World Championships in September, in England.
In the final, Schacter and Fenton overcame a loss in the first game to win the next two to claim the title.
