Midfielder Matthew Palleschi’s goal at the 52-minute mark proved to be the difference as the Vaughan Italia Shooters emerged with a hard-fought 1-0 win over the Brampton Lions in Canadian Soccer League action Sunday at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School field in Maple.

Palleschi’s goal came off a well-struck free kick.

The win bolstered Vaughan’s first-place standing in the International Division with a 7-3-1 mark.

The Italia Shooters resume league play tomorrow when they play the North York Astros at St. Joan of Arc Catholic High School field at 8 p.m.

The Astros occupy third place in the National Division with a 4-4-2 mark.
