Alessa Salvaggio capped off her competitive season at the Elite Ontario competition in Hamilton by placing sixth in the all-around competition.
Entered in the Level 9, 12/13 division, the Richmond Hill woman, who competes with the Markham-based Tristar Gymnastics, started off on a strong note by finishing first on the vault with a score of 14.150. In doing so, she earned the most powerful vault award.
In other individual events, Salvaggio earned a fourth on floor after being the only athlete in her age category to perform a double somersault. That effort also enabled her to earn the most variety in tumbling award.
Salvaggio was fifth on beam and 14th on the bars, after incurring a fall in her routine.
Hoffman loses title in playoff
Mark Hoffman fired a two-round, five-over par 149 to finish in a two-way tie for first place at the Canadian Junior Golf Association’s Humber College Invitational’s men’s individual event.
The 19-year-old Thornhill resident was instrumental in helping his Humber College men’s contingent win the team title at the Mystic Golf Club near Ancaster.
Hoffman just completed his first year in the school’s professional golf management program, and carded rounds of 74 and 75 to tie Humber College teammate Adrian Cord.
With Hoffman and Cord finishing in a tie for top spot, a playoff took place to determine the medallist.
Cord won the event after making par on the first extra hole.
In the team event, the Humber College squad finished first by 23 shots over Team CJGA, who had Richmond Hill resident Taylor Pendrith, 16, on the squad.
Pendrith carded a two-round, nine-over par 153 (76-77) and finished in a two-way tie for seventh place in the men’s individual event.
