Officers from both York Regional and Ontario Provincial police will be out on the roads this long weekend.
A traffic initiative — dubbed Operation Impact — will involve officers from both forces beginning today and running through Monday.
The blitz will focus on three areas determined to be the main factors in most serious and fatal vehicle crashes — seatbelts, impaired driving and speeding.
“There have been a number of serious crashes involving impaired drivers recently including three incidents where a motorist was driving the wrong way on a major highway, resulting in at least three fatalities,” OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino said in a statement Friday. “No one should get behind the wheel if they have been drinking.”
York police will also operate an enhanced R.I.D.E. program during the weekend.
You are encouraged to call 911 if you see someone you suspect is impaired behind the wheel.
Closed on holiday Monday:
• LCBO and beer stores
