United girls move to cup final

Ashley Campbell and Lashaunna Harper scored two goals each to power Newmarket United to a 4-0 victory over the Oshawa Kicks in Ontario Cup girls under-14 semifinal action on the weekend.

The victory earned Newmarket a date in the final against Pickering Power Pythons in the Cup final to be played Sept. 6 at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan.

Pickering edged Oakville Titans 1-0 in its semifinal contest.

Ninth-inning rally sends Leafs past senior Hawks

The Leaside Leafs erased a one-run deficit with five unearned runs in the top of the ninth inning to claim a 6-2 victory over the Newmarket Hawks and sweep a Greater Toronto Baseball League best-of-three semifinal series Tuesday night at McKnight Field.

Tigers get in the Spirit in Jr. A pre-season series

The Aurora Tigers visit the Stouffville Spirit tonight to open an Ontario Provincial Jr. A Hockey League pre-season home-and-home series.

The teams will also face off at the Aurora Community Centre Friday night.

Meanwhile, the Newmarket Hurricanes travel to Markham to take on the Waxers for the second time in three nights.

Newmarket opens its regular season schedule Sept. 11 at Stouffville while the Tigers kick off their season on the road the following night against the Huntsville Otters.

Barbarians, Markham clash in ORU East final

The Aurora Barbarians tackle Markham Rugby Football Club tonight in the Ontario Rugby Union boys under-16 East Division final at Austin Park in Markham.

The winner advances to the ORU final to be played Sept. 7 at Fletcher’s Fields.

Game time at Markham is 6:30 p.m.

The pitch is located on Austin Drive in the Hwy. 7 and Kennedy Road area.
