The Brigham Young University-Idaho Dance Alliance will put on a swinging revue next week, with net proceeds going to Southlake Regional Health Centre.

The accomplished dance alliance will bring its 35-member ensemble to the stage at the Newmarket Theatre Monday for a one-night-only performance designed to celebrate the roots and evolution of the jazz era.

To that end, the group will feature a wide range of different dance styles including ballet, swing, clogging, tap, jazz and many more. The show will also offer plenty of toe-tapping music, costumes and some beautiful and precise choreography to go along with it.

The show is being billed as kid friendly and fun for the whole family and the members of the dance alliance describe the dances as “wholesome and uplifting.”

The alliance is on a three-week-long performance tour of Michigan, Ontario and Quebec that kicked off in the Detroit area July 21.

The Newmarket performance will just be one of many stops the group will be making.

Based out of Rexburg, Idaho, BYU-Idaho, known as Ricks College until 2001, serves as an educational institution to some 20,000 students per year who hail from all 50 states and come from more than 40 different countries. The school’s dance alliance was created in the early 1970s and has performed virtually all over the world.

The show swings into action at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Newmarket Theatre is at 505 Pickering Cres. just west of Leslie Street and Mulock Drive.

Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for students and children.
