When Flora Lim struggled to find her musical voice and depth on the flute, an angel of music entered her life — Leslie Huggett.

Mr. Huggett had been the one who approached Ms Lim in 1996, asking to study flute with her to develop his technique.

In the end, the roles reversed with Mr. Huggett teaching her about getting the passion and emotion into her performances.

Ms Lim, who is in her 30s, was born in Singapore and has lived in Canada for 18 years.

Ms Lim will perform at Art & Antiques in the Park July 14 and  July 15.

This year marks the 12th anniversary of the fine art show and sale. Event organizers are bringing in fine artists and antique collectors from around the province for what is now considered one of Ontario’s premier art shows.

Last year, more than 130 exhibitors took part.

The event will also offer entertainment, food and drink, and the Kreative Kids pavilion for young visitors.

It all takes place in an historic village atmosphere on the grounds of the Markham Museum.

Ms Lim will play between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Her performance will include a wide variety of music such as folk music, Beatles tunes and operas.

“It is music special to me that I feel strongly about,” she said.

Ms Lim, a Markham resident, graduated from the University of Toronto with a bachelor of music degree. She is the program co-ordinator and teacher at The Flute Studio in Markham.

Mr. Huggett and his wife, Margaret, founded the studio but since Mrs. Huggett’s retirement, it is run by Mr. Huggett and Ms Lim.

It runs 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the museum on Hwy. 48 at 16th Avenue.
