Victoria Scrozzo knew she wanted to meet the challenge of completing the Rona MS Bike tour, but she didn’t know how rewarding it would be.
“It’s definitely an experience,” Ms Scrozzo says. “It’s a challenge and you almost want to prove to yourself you can get it done.”
The 25-year-old Woodbridge resident covered the fundraising race as an intern with the Guelph Mercury a few years ago. As her own interest in cycling grew, it appeared a perfect opportunity.
While the Toronto race takes place this weekend, Ms Scrozzo opted to try the grueling Brampton-Waterloo course a couple of weeks ago.
“It seemed like a really fun thing do and you get a payoff at the end because it’s for a good cause,” she said.
Having made her decision, she drafted a cousin, thinking the two of them would do the ride together. Before they knew it, the team swelled to 12 and became “The Riders on the Storm.”
They also exceeded their fundraising goals with Ms Scrozzo hoping to raise $1,500 on her own and $5,000 in total. She ended up with $1,700 in donations on her own, and more than $9,000 from the whole team.
